Sometimes you just want to withdraw tactically for a minute or two, an hour or so, to pause for thought for a day. A week becomes a fought knight and there's no point battling in vein. Even a hundred hydra heads occasionally fall simultaneously silent.

Sometimes you run out of steam temporarily, when the pan boils dry. Sometimes you wonder whether you have anything useful to contribute, when you've lost sight of the fact that anything is everything. Sometimes you just want to sit back contentedly and listen to everyone else chatting for a while. Sometimes actions speak louder than swords.

There was, is and will be no masterplan, but generally we prefer the sound of the word "yes", particularly when accompanied by the sounds of galloping hooves and another head bursting forth.

Vaughan - does this mean I have to keep on writing posts like this, so that the internet's Mean Obfuscation Index isn't affected by you being away?

D - your phrase "meat-space re-boot" crossed my mind several times over the past few weeks. This evening I wondered whether a Yorkshire version could be a "reet-space me-boot".

You're back. That can only be good.
