I have been stalking her all day, with poison and blunt objects, but her will to live is strong. She has a mission: a nest to build, eggs to lay, a brood to hatch, a swarm to nurture. She is my metaphor incarnate, an unpredictable buzz of wing and hazard stripes.
She taunts me from a downpipe, broadcasting the plans of her infernal mission, knowing that I have holes in my hands and cannot catch her. Her purpose is greater than mine: creation and propagation. I, in return, can offer only silence and oblivion.
She will win. This is how the world keeps turning.

Maybe you just need a bigger flamethrower.
Visceral and irrational my hatred of wasps may be, but I think even I’d draw the line at burning down the house just to deal with one. Even in the name of regicide.
How curious !
Initially when I read this I was appalled by your murderous designs as I assumed it to be a Queen Bee.
When I realised it was Ms. Vespula Vulgaris , I was on your warpath too.
( hello too, I have been really enjoying reading your posts )
Hi Isabelle, thanks for commenting. The honest truth is that I really wouldn’t know the difference between a queen wasp and queen bee. I was working on the basis that we’ve had several wasps’ nests in our house over the past few years. Also, the garden has been full of bees for months, but I haven’t seen a single wasp yet (until this one). I love bees, I can sit and watch them for hours.
Yeah, this was a wasp. It had a nasty attitude.
