I stumbled across the DrunkenWerewolf journal a couple of months ago, while searching for something music-related. Eventually I cottoned on to the fact that DrunkenWerewolf is also “an ugly looking fanzine” (their words, not mine). Intrigued by the editors’ excellent taste, I bought and enjoyed issue 2.
And now, to cut a long story short, I’ve written some reviews for issue 3. I’m always saying I want to do more music writing (not to mention writing more material for other people, rather than staying in my little Hydragenic-shaped comfort zone). With a manifesto like this, how could I resist?
“Our musical tastes are collectively about progression and although we acknowledge there were some brilliant artists in the 60s, 70s and 80s, there were also some shit ones. And unfortunately, these shit ones make more of an impact on 21st century music than they should. We’re not particularly fond of regurgitated rubbish, it smells, so here here! to those musicians out there doing otherwise!”
Indeed. Elsewhere, a few weeks ago, I wrote that I’m not interested in musicians who want to sound like someone else. Contrary to the cliché, great minds don’t think alike. DW showcases artists who are trying to do something different and I’m happy to have become one of its contributors.
DrunkenWerewolf issue 3 is out now. To order a copy, go to the MySpace page. To check out some recommended bands, complete with MP3s, visit the aforementioned journal. Some of my DW stuff will be re-published here on an occasional basis too, in an attempt to entice you to buy the magazine itself…
