Draw the curtains, turn the lights on
Feel the aching of your heart
Write a few words, hum a sad tune
Tell yourself it could be art
Sip your whiskey, stare into space
Wonder where your life went wrong
Get inspired and articulate
All those thoughts into a song
It could be a timeless classic
Loved for years and years and years
So heartfelt and beautiful that
Your thoughts move them all to tears
But the right words don’t come to you
Regardless of how you try
And your head spins with frustration
And you’re sure you’re going to cry
Similes and metaphors and
Imagery of power and grace
Were the plan but inspiration
Has absconded without trace
It’s so pointless to pretend when
It’s so plain for all to see
Drain your glass and turn the lights out
This song’s never meant to be
The Ballad Of The Failed Songwriter

Harsh, dude.
If this is failing, I hope all my writing fails.
[Hello.]
Oh dear, is it that bad? It was a rather throwaway composition, self-satirical and written with a large (if somewhat twisted) grin on my face.
Clearly I’m no good at writing jaunty little ditties. I’ll have to stick to the apocalyptic cold war trauma and the emetic properties of language.
An afterthought: the tone that I was aiming for was something like Beans On Toast‘s MySpace Picture.
Hahahahahaha.
It was the whiskey wot did it, obviously.
Nice theory, but I have to confess that the whiskey was a matter of poetic license rather than strictly factual. I was actually drinking tea, but I needed a two-syllable word.
Also, tea isn’t terribly rock ‘n’ roll.

Ah. No worries. I promise I’m not a spammer. Glad you pulled me out of the gutter, though…
… and predictably that one got junked too!
