I don’t like to boast, but as I sit here light-headed and giddy at the anticipation of all the music I’m going to be watching later, I hope you won’t mind a little indiscretion.
Tony, George, Silvio, Jacques, Junichiro, Paul, Vladimir and Gerhard are semi-regular readers of this site. Only yesterday, George IMed me to let me know that he’s actually quite a fan of Steve Earl and thinks that the t-shirt is hilarious.
So, on this fine day, to my adoring world-leader-readers, I have only one thing to say: sort it out, guys. Or, as the advert in today’s Times (and no doubt elsewhere) puts it more eloquently:
“We are gathering for you the largest mandate for action in history. Just as people demanded an end to slavery, demanded women’s suffrage, demanded the end of apartheid – we now call for an end to the unjust absurdity of extreme poverty that is killing 50,000 every day, in the 21st century…
“Do not disappoint us. Do not create a generation of cynics. Do not betray the desires of billions and the hopes of the poorest of our world.”
