‘bel and Mike were my houseguests for the weekend and Saturday began – as all weekends should – with copious pots of tea, newspapers and a large, lingering brunch of bacon & eggs.
In the afternoon we headed off to see the Millenium Bridge and to go to the Tate Modern, which I last visited almost a year ago. I want to write separately about the Anish Kapoor sculpture at the Tate Modern (sneak preview: GO! NOW!), so I’ll fast forward to a tableau of a contentedly knackered trio of bloggers sitting on one of the Tate’s café balconies at around 6pm, staring out over the moonlit, floodlit River Thames.
Mike departed for pastures elsewhere (only to text me around four hours later to tell me that the venue he was in had just played C30, C60, C90, Go!) and ‘bel and I returned Chez Hg, where the Mrs and another of our friends had finally returned from their own Friday night. We disappeared up the road for dinner at a local nice-food-but-crap-service hotel (generally a case of “third time lucky” when choosing from the menu), returning home later to an ever more comfortable sofa.
On Sunday morning, Mrs Hg and I ventured down into Kent to carry out some urgently required config surgery on my sister-in-law’s PC. Niece #1 took the opportunity to demonstrate two of her recently acquired internet skills (stealth acquisition of passwords and e-mails to friends beginning with “how u doin???”) and also to show me how I could squeeze the two sides of my chin together to make it look like a “hairy bum”. I’m sure I’ll be able to return the favour in ten years’ time by demonstrating it back to some devastatingly handsome new boyfriend who she’s trying to impress.

Stuart, all hail you the sex symbol of Bloggerland
I agree, having just seen the collection of photographs from your Blogger Boozing Bonanza – very dashing!
That photo of the three of you – I can’t help thinking of the opening credits of some 1970s detective series. Hmm. Which one? Charlie’s Angels? No. GOT IT! It’s The New Avengers, isn’t it?
I said exactly the same thing when we reviewed the pictures later in the day.
i wanna be Charlie’s Angels!
Gert: Mike is the posterboy of UK blogging, and Stuart is the sex symbol. We will be able to produce our own calendar at this rate!!
The pleasure brought by these comments is tempered only slightly by the fact that you are all clearly stark raving bonkers.
