This morning I came across Dick Pountain‘s description of his efforts to create music from prime numbers. The music, as described on his web site, is “generated from a Turbo Pascal program, based on the first 2000 prime numbers. The musical intervals between separate notes are proportional to the distance between successive primes, and so is the rhythm.”
You can hear the results, as a MIDI file, just here (scroll down to the bottom). Record labels like Warp or Rephlex would release this without batting an eyelid.
And then, synchronicity. Between reading the article and getting a chance to mention it here, I spotted this on Kookymojo – something very similar indeed.
